Decisions
The Di Data pro-am is a thing of the past. As
with any tournament of this size there will
be problems and we did have them, you can
only learn from your mistakes.
It would appear that having more non Nomads
than Nomads helping has become the
norm, this must be rectified. Most people who
helped out seemed to enjoy themselves.
The Berenberg Bank Masters is coming up in
March and Tannah needs 60 volunteers. This is
the perfect opportunity to come along and
see what happens. The jobs are not
complicated and you get to see some good
golf close up.
The Bells tickets have finally arrived, we
need to have these completed and returned to
Steve Twycross before the team leaves for
the Nationals. Any queries phone Steve on
0827743404.
The latest Nomad diary has also just arrived
and is also available from Steve. Any body
who has not received their diary please come
along to the monthly game at Simola on the
14March where the diaries and Bells tickets
will be available.
Winter is slowly creeping up, lets make sure
we are prepared and have winter gear in our
bags.
Lastly I would like feedback on the playing
of Estate courses .Please feel free to drop
me a mail and give me your opinion.
Steve Twycross.
Vice Captain Southern Cape
Good news for the Southern Cape, Natex have
relaxed the dress code for prizegiving at
certain clubs.
Where shower facilities are not available [Knysna],
and where water restrictions are enforced
[George], members will be allowed to attend
prizegiving dressed in Pinks.
It must be stressed that when these
circumstances change members will once again
be expected to revert back to normal Nomad
dress code.
The early start at Mossel Bay was well
received, the committee will try to arrange
early starts for as many games as possible
in the future.
Tannah is desperately looking for help at
the Di-Data pro-am at Fancourt. Anybody who
can help out on Thursday and/or Friday
please urgently contact Steve Twycross or
Peter Heydra.

| Stilbaai ! What a
name. We were marooned and wrecked by rain
and wind. Even the local players did not
feature. No-one went as low as 52 for the
short hole aggregate.
On the brighter side,
Nigel Tipping was awarded his 350th game
badge on the final green with champagne.
Great stuff Nigel.

Seaboard has now come
and gone. A very successful and enjoyable
weekend was had, and a round of applause to
the co-ordinators, our JVC Steve Twycross
and the 4 other JVC's. A special thanks to
Tannah and Berti Harris for all the work
done behind close doors. The trophy was won
by WP, well done guys. Unfortunately S/Cape
put in the some blistering scores to come in
stone last.
Needless to say that
we also lost the Boland challenge to Boland.
Round one of GPKO now
completed, and once again hip-hip-hooray to
Ian Botha and Boet Gericke on winning the
regional finals of the Old Mutual
International Pairs at PE Golf Club on
Sunday 9th August. |

June Andrew Mentis
Weekend The
weekend started at 11h00 at Pezula with 15
Alliance teams and continued on Saturday
morning at 07h50. The format was an alliance
stableford 2 scores to count. We were
pleased to have our Acting Andrew Mentis
Chairman (Glen Dalton) to participate with
our JVC and to also address us after the
game. Our sincere thanks to Rieco van der
Linde (CellShack & Bogeyman Golf) for a
fantastic prize table sponsorship. Even
though the days were badly supported we had
a reasonable spread of entrants (3 - Gauteng,
8 - WP, 3 - Boland, 1 - Eastern Cape, 1 - St
Francis Bay, 12 - Stillbaai and the rest
closeby). Jeff Clause also joined us and
sponsored 2 by 4 ball vouchers to play at
his course. These will be auctioned at our
next monthly game. After our Sunday monthly
game, a few of us travelled to St Francis
Links for a monday morning game. The weather
was great, and the course in the best
condition I have seen it. To those that
travelled there, thanks, and to those who
did not, you missed one of the best golfing
experiences you will ever come across.
Finally, our named charity should be pleased
with the amounts raised so far.

September Game
Great weather, and
Nomads visit Kingswood on their official
game. Other than the confusion of the
scorecards, and where to go to the next tee,
the game was enjoyed by all. Thanks to
Kingswood for allowing us the priveledge to
use their facilities.
It was also a proud
moment for us to donate Range Balls to their
development program. These were officially
handed over to Val Holland (Director of
Golf). Our captain Les Marais also handed
over our traditional Bell to Val.

the GPKO was also completed, and the new

August Games
The Seaboard Trophy
was held at Goose Valley on Friday 8th
August. The course was set up in the true
spirit of our pink shirts, we were so close
to the ladies tees, and the scores reflected
this. 5 forty pointers ! The challenge was a
walkover for Boland. Well done to Kim van
Zyl and his team. Thanks to our JVC, Arthur
Ambrose, for hosting the event.
On sunday, 10th
August, Antonie Grobler, Thys Cronje, Don
van Niekerk and John Richards travelled to
Port Elizabeth for the Old Mutual
International Pairs regional finals. They
did not fare very well, and this saga is now
over for the year. I encourage everyone to
enter for this event next year, as it was
really a great experience.

MAY 2008
The game played at
George was good, with many visitors from
Southern Natal. The day was unfortunately
spoiled by many a bickering that the
nomination of the new JVC was not done
constitutionally. The committee would like
to point out that the voting of this post
was done according to the constitution, and
that all rounds of the voting was counted by
two respected nomads, Ken Haldane (Past
National Chairman) and John Richards
(Treasurer). This counting was done in front
of the Pink Ladies. We hope that this clears
up any misunderstandings.
Procedure also
states that the position of JVC in
temporary, and we expect new nominations for
Vice-Captain and JVC at our AGM.

| 20 April -
Monthly game |
| A field of
89 players arrived at Goose Valley in a
downpour of rain for
our monthly game and the Old Mutual
International Pairs event.The start was
delayed by a half an hour to 10h30, and we
started off in overcast weather. The heavens
opened again at 12h00 for about 20 minutes,
and then started clearing gradually. Overall
we had a fantastic day. Thanks to Mike Carr
for handling the Old Mutual International
Pairs.. Pictures to

| MARCH 2008 |
| |
| 20 March -
Monthly game |
| A field of
88 plus players arrived at Knysna for
our monthly game and 1st round of the Gary
Player Knockout. Knysna was one of those
"Previously Lit Areas", and we were told
that there was no power from 8am to 6pm.
Cold breakfast and and Cold Showers were to
be had. A special THANKS to BELLS for the
whisky table. To make matters even worse,
the greens had just been hollow-tyned and
were very slow. The weather was pretty good,
but the wind increased its tempo during the
course of the day. The Pink Ladies worked
very hard capturing the scores, using the
last of the battery life, and the day was
saved with a ups that extended this life for
an extra hour. Nomads sponsored the prizes
for the day, and they were supplemented by
unclaimed prizes from last year. Picture to

| FEBRUARY 2008 |

| 17 February -
Monthly game |
| A small field of
80 plus players arrived at Mossel Bay for
our monthly game.It was the first tme that I
have ever experienced this town that
lived up to having one of the best climates
in the world. Imagine it :- Mossel Bat Golf
Course without WIND and bright sunshine. The
scores for the day tell the story. Warm
thanks to the Golf Club for allowing us the
priveledge to play on a course that was in
absolutely fantastic condition. Thanks also
to Graeme Robb of Timbercity for your
fantastic sponsorship for the day. Pictures

| 8 - 10th February - BOLAND 15th
ANNIVERSARY |
| Twelve of us travelled to Hermanus to
celebrate with Boland and our other friends.
A cocktail party with a difference, (snoek
braai), started off the festivities on
Friday, and was then followed by a game at
the Kleinmond course on Saturday in a
howling gale. The evening was rounded off
with a fantastic dinner and dance band.
Sunday the heavens opened with rain to greet
the early players. The middle field
had a great day, and Tannah and John were
saved by the lightning and thunderstorm, and
had to have the "Duck-Lewis" system applied
to their scores. These results are displayed
in the "AWAY
GAMES RESULTS".
Overall, a fantastic
weekend. Nomads, this is what it is all
about. |
| 7th February - VOLVO MASTERS |
| Played at the George Golf Club and
supported by 100 players. We thank Volvo for
their generous sponsorship for the day. We
unfortunately had bad rainy weather and
congratulations to COSTAS POLYDOROU in
winning the event. He will represent
Southern Cape in the Regional Finals. |
